See the forest, see the trees, the joys of getting lost in the woods.

Minneapolis band Kazyak is the indie craft vehicle of frontman, songwriter, guitarist Peter Frey who takes us into the thick of the woods in his premiere for, "Pieces of My Map". Having made the festival circuit rounds, the new album See the Forest, See the Trees finds the group stirring up a selection of rich, heartfelt string arrangements with electric guitars, violins, banjos and strummed percussion sentiments that stretch out like the urban forest branches that embrace downtown Minneapolis. Peter's approach to song construction is to utilize every breath and instrument as a foundational musical tree trunk for budding leaves, flowers and fruits to spring from with a searching spirit for life's lost fragments.

Blaid & the Family Trade

Performing Drugstore Hucksters

Don't forget to catch these lovely folks at their very own release party for their very own first ever EP that's called Whiskey With Goliath, Friday January 25th, 2013! Where? At the Icehouse. Where is that? 2528 Nicollet Ave S, Minneapolis!

The Family Trade is a six-piece folk orchestra that features band members from Yes!Lets Collective bands Very Small Animal and the Dusty Porch Sisters. The EP's seven songs were recorded live to analog tape at McNally Smith's College of Music studios (where Laidlaw teaches songwriting), and the resulting album has a warmth and heart that is reminiscent of classic folk records like Neil Young's Harvest and The Band's Music from Big Pink.

YLC artist Ashley Hanson selected for CCM Partnership

Artists team up with city planners in unique Creative CityMaking partnership

Jan. 14, 2013 (MINNEAPOLIS) Artists will have a hand in five city planning projects in 2013, thanks to a new program that is helping Minneapolis develop into a city that is a living work of art.  Creative CityMaking is a partnership between Intermedia Arts and the City of Minneapolis that fosters collaborations between local artists and City planners to develop fresh and innovative approaches for addressing the long-term transportation, land use, economic, environmental, and social issues facing Minneapolis.
In 2013, Creative CityMaking will embed four artists/artist teams in the Long Range Planning Division of the City’s Community Planning and Economic Development Department (CPED).  Four teams of artists have been selected and paired up with five planning projects, which they will work on through 2013.  The partnership of artists and planners is intended to forge, enhance, or develop new strategies for working through the creative processes inherent in visionary planing and city making. It is intended to engage artists in critical thinking and art making around City and urban issues and to increase artists’ and planners’ ability to facilitate community interaction and work collaborativley with the public to foster positive change in the quality and trajectory of social discourse about the city’s urban future.  Their collaborative work will be showcased throughout the year at citywide community events, culminating in a public exhibition and forum at Intermedia Arts.
